Twihards might want to sit down

So word on the street is Stephanie Meyer, the Morman responsible for the plague known as Bella and Edward, might have plagiarized the first two books in the series.

Meyer is being sued by her former college roommate, Heidi Stanton.

Heidi filed a lawsuit against Stephanie in Utah last Tuesday, April 14th. Heidi states in the papers, “Quite frankly, I was shocked when I began watching the movie [Twilight] with my husband last week. I immediately told him that she got that idea from me! I wrote a fictional short story with the same ideas when we were in college together.”

Stanton has a college professor to back her up, but this could just prove how idiotic she is, if she thinks the “idea” of vampires was stolen from her.  No one will know until she produces the short stories her claims are based on.  Otherwise, this just comes off as petty jealousy.

Sadly  Allegedly production for the second movie, New Moon has shut down.  But I wouldn’t believe that at all.

Frankly, I don’t think that this is that much of a concern. JK Rowling has had many lawsuits from people claiming she stole the idea for Harry Potter from them, and although I would not compare her work to that of Stephanie Meyer (whose work in my opinion has some serious issues) the whole lawsuit thing certainly hasn’t stopped her.

As an aspiring author, however, I rebel against the idea that SMeyer’s entire plot and such came from a dream – please. Nobody’s subconcious is that creative. Maybe she got a basic idea, but not the whole thing. I didn’t believe it when JK Rowling said it and I certainly don’t believe it from her. (Although I’m pretty sure JK Rowling only said that she got the idea of a boy wizard who doesn’t know he’s a wizard while on that train.) It’s an insult to those who spend years working on detailed plots to claim that one day, a best-selling novel formed itself in your head in the course of a single night. NO way.
