Wordnik: a newish kind of dictionary

Wordnik is anew website devoted to providing “as much information as possible, just as fast as we can find it, for every word in English, and to give you a place where you can make your own opinions about words known.”

I’ve definitely lost a couple of hours playing around with it and for sure feel like it’s the best sort of contextual, auditory pronunciation, information aggregation dictionary on the net.  It pulls together images, Twitter searches, antonyms, synonyms, definitions from several places, etc.

What I’d like to see happen is for them to incorporate the Urban Dictionary.  So much of language these days is mercurial and ever shifting — new slang words invented and incorporated almost as quickly into the accepted lexicon.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand, however, why the site aggregates Flikr images for each word.
