Letting Kids Judge Books by Their Covers

We’ve all heard that old adage about judging books by their covers, but Sunny Chanel did just that with her six-year-old daughter to charming effect. Chanel showed her daughter various books — Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, and George Orwell’s Animal Farm, among others — and asked her to describe the book’s plot based solely on the cover.

It’s hard to say what my favorite entry is, but I particularly love the ones for Jane Eyre (she’s a gold miner) and The Great Gatsby (above). I will say, definitively, that many of plots for these books were significantly improved by Chanel’s daughter.

How much would you rather watch that Great Gatsby movie directed by Baz Luhrmann if the plot were about a magical guy who sets a haunted amusement park on fire to exterminate the ghosts? [via tobeshelved]
