Mark Twain on Writing

He doesn’t care for Jane Austin (not one bit) and he offers many a nugget of wisdom, for example:

I conceive that the right way to write a story for boys is to write so that it will not only interest boys but strongly interest any man who has ever been a boy. That immensely enlarges the audience.

This is why modern Young Adult fiction — since the publication of the first Harry Potter novel, really — has had a resurgence of late. It is also why ‘Pacific Rim’ has been my favorite movie this summer.
