Elmore Leonard, one of
America’s THE greatest crime novelists ever and dubbed the “Dickens of Detroit” has died, his longtime researcher Gregg Sutter confirmed to the Detroit News. He was 87.
This sucks. Nobody could write like Leonard. There was no confusing his style and prose with any other writer — you knew you were reading a Leonard sentence.
His “10 Rules of Writing” is essential reading and as good a legacy as any of his 45 novels, which include too many classics to list. Don’t watch the movies based on his books, just go and read his novels. You’ll be happy and better off for doing so.
