The Zayed National Museum is currently under construction on Saadiyat Island, just outside of Abu Dhabi, as a monument/cultural institution in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding president of the UAE. Upon completion it will house shops, cafes, performance venues and more.
The design is based on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s love for falconry. What’s apparent, immediately, is how lacking American architecture tends to be. This is Sydney Opera House spectacular looking. A piece of work beholden to nothing but its own beauty. The museum was designed by Foster + Partners. [via gizmodo]
