Edgar Rice Burroughs Honored with a Stamp in 2012

Following on the heels of the news that director John Ford would be honored with a USPS Forever stamp, now word comes that sci fi author Edgar Rice Burroughs — he of Tarzan and John Carter of Mars fame — will be getting the honor as well. According to Blastr, the author “will be featured next year on a forever stamp drawn by Sterling Hundley and based on a 1934 photo taken by Burroughs’ son, Hulbert Burroughs.”

The stamp is being issued to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the publication of the John Carter story “Under the Moons of Mars” and the first Tarzan story, “Tarzan of the Apes,” both of which appeared in All-Story Magazine in 1912.

The geeks truly have won.
