New Peanuts Movie: Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown

Next Tuesday, Charlie Brown and the gang will return in a direct-to-DVD movie, Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown. The new movie is based on a 1960s strip from Peanuts creator Charles Schultz. Linus learns his grandma is coming to visit with the dastardly intentions of taking away his fabled security blanket. The Peanuts gang tries to help him ahead of her visit, Lucy resorts to psychiatric methods, Charlie Brown doesn’t have the heart to see his friend suffer, and Snoopy wants the blanket for himself.

The new Peanuts movie was directed by Andy Beall (Up, Ratatouille), animated by Frank Molieri (The Simpsons Movie, SpongeBob SquarePants Movie), and it features a score from Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh. By the looks of things, it could be the first Peanuts special worth watching since those holiday specials from back in the day.

Thanks to Cartoon Brew, we are treated to both a trailer for the movie and several scenes in pencil tests, narrated by Beall himself. Enjoy.

As the voice of Lucy in the new movie, I hope you all love it as much as I loved making it.
