The makers of high fructose corn syrup want to change their image with a new name: corn sugar. The Corn Refiners Association is filing an application with the Food and Drug Administration, Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, to get “corn sugar” approved as an alternative name for food labels.
To make it seem more, what?, healthy? I love that major companies/industries think that simply changing the name of their terrible product, in this case from High Fructose Corn Syrup to Corn Sugar, will make people forget how much they don’t want it. The movement away from HFCS is a good one and no amount of lip stick on this pig (corn sugar, really?) should alter people’s negative perceptions of it. [via]
