Well this is sad, but anyone half-following the develops of Miramax and Harvey Weinstein after the company was bought by Disney and Weinstein left to form a company in his name could have seen this one coming.
Miramax is no more. Here’s a look at some of the studio’s greatest hits, including Pulp Fiction, The Crying Game, Shakespeare in Love, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The English Patient, Chocolat and Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
If you talk about Oscars and Oscar campaigns and indie films in the 1990’s it basically starts and ends with Miramax. They made it possible for smaller, arthouse films to get seen and their legacy makes it possible for all of these smaller studio arms to exist today like Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, etc. etc. etc.
