Bruce Springsteen, “We Take Care of Our Own”

There’s a bit of irony at play in The Boss’s latest tune, “We Take Care of Our Own” off his upcoming Wrecking Ball album. It’s a tactic he used to confusing effect on “Born in the U.S.A.” to produce cultural critiques that sounded on the surface to be a rousing endorsement of America.

As for the song, it’s good but not great. The lyrics are decent enough, but the melody seems ripped from a New Order song (or is that just me?). Still, it’s refreshing to see a guy like Bruce Springsteen still engaged and still trying to be pump out relevant music, unlike his contemporaries U2, et al., who at this point are just cruising on their back catalogs.
