Twentieth Century Fox has hired comics superstar Mark Millar, perhaps best known for Kick-Ass and Wanted, to serve as a creative consultant on the studio’s upcoming Marvel Comics projects.
That means Millar, who has a great relationship with Marvel Comics, will be serving essentially the same role for Fox that Joss Whedon is filling for Marvel Studios — though he probably has an easier job by not having to plan story continuity across multiple character movies like Whedon does. Fox currently holds the rights to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Wolverine franchises.
Great move by Fox, but I think everyone that loves the Marvel movie universe is secretly hoping all of the character rights eventually revert back to Marvel. Fans want to see The X-Men mixing it up with the Avengers and Spider-Man popping up in the Fantastic Four.
