Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same hit-man at different points in his life in the sci-fi, time travel, action film Looper.
Much has been made about the effort to make Gordon-Levitt look and sound like Willis, but I’m more interested in writer and director Rian Johnson, who has demonstrated a real knack for messing with and honoring genre conventions with two stellar features in the noir detective flick, Brick (which made Gordon-Levitt’s movie career), and with con men and caper flicks with The Brothers Bloom.
That’s to say, I couldn’t be more excited to see what he brings to the table for the time travel, sci-fi action genre in September. Those movies are often difficult to pull off simply because they get bogged down in their own faulty logic. Hopefully, Johnson rises above and uses this movie as a ticket to ride the big studio gravy train, much like Christopher Nolan did after Insomnia. [via time]
