The first two teaser trailers for Zack Snyder’s take on Superman, Man of Steel have hit. Both teasers have very little footage, but I was immediately struck by how tonally this evokes Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. There’s a little more grandeur, which is what you’d hope from a Superman movie, but all in all, this thing screams out to be the distant cousin of Nolan’s superhero world.
That’s a good thing. If Snyder can somehow bring that type of approach to Superman and marry it with his crazy, action skills (serious when was the last time we saw Superman be ridiculously super in a movie? It hasn’t happened. With all apologies to the original Donner film, which is fucking brilliant, imho, we still haven’t tapped into a Superman movie where his abilities leave us speechless), then we could be in for something special.
I’m not sure, but I think they are using music from Lord of the Rings in this? Here’s the same trailer but with Russell Crowe’s Jor-El voiceover instead of Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent. I kind of expected this to turn into Gladiator 2.
