Paul Rudd is Marvel’s Ant-Man

The Wrap has confirmed the rumors that Paul Rudd is indeed going to be Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.

While most assume that means he is going to be playing Dr. Hank Pym, inventor of the Ant-Man technology, Badass Digest’s Devin Faraci believes that Rudd is actually going to be playing Scott Lang and that the movie will be a techno-heist thriller of sorts.

In Marvel mythology, Lang was a technology genius who falls on hard times, turns to a life of burglary to support his family, and ends up in jail. After being released, he gets a job at Stark Industries and makes the hard choice to steal Pym’s Ant-Man technology in order to kidnap a doctor/scientist — the only person who can save the life of his dying daughter.

That’s a pretty compelling story, if you ask me, and one that ties nicely into the existing Marvel movie universe. You could still introduce Dr. Hank Pym in Avengers 2 as the creator of Ultron and use that as the jumping off point for Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, without the need for much explanation or back story in the movie, since Marvel will have laid the groundwork ahead of time.

Get excited — especially for the Paul Rudd, RDJ, Chris Pratt quip off written by Joss Whedon that should absolutely happen in Avengers 3. Marvel seems to really know what the fuck it’s doing, if you haven’t already figured that out.
