According to Filter: “The New Pornographers have buckled down to work on their new album and are now eyeing August 21st as a possible release date. The album will be released on Matador Records and has been tentatively titled Challengers.”
We like it. We’ll like it more if Neko Case is still in the Canadian power-pop band. Not that we don’t love Kathryn Calder, but she’s no Neko. That fine, fine chantreuse.
The band is recording now and will take some time off this summer to play a few of the larger festivals – P4K, Coechella and help celebrate American Independence at Battery Park. Expected to be on the album are the cuts, “Myriad Harbor,” “Salinger” and “Go Places.”
Lead Pornographer, Carl Newman told Billboard that the new album will be much more epic than 2005’s Twin Cinema. “We realized, we can do any kind of song we want on our albums. This record is an extension of that. It is maybe slightly more epic. It has our first song that passes the six-minute-long mark. In fact, it might have our first songs that pass the five-minute mark!”
Hopefully this will be the album that launches these guys and gals into the stratosphere.
