Portland mayor Sam Adams has partnered with a local music licensing company Rumblefish to create Listen Local, a program dedicated to promoting local music through the city’s phone lines. “Should you make a call to a City bureau and be put on hold for a moment or transferred to another department, you will now be treated to the delightful sounds of local musicians,” a press release reads.
A 15-track playlist featuring folk rock collective Loch Lomond, among others, has been handpicked by Listen Local’s summer volunteers to be featured on the lines.
“From our entrepreneurs to our artists, what starts in Portland tends to be watched – and bought – around the world,” Adams says on his website. “Portland’s economic prosperity is being built on our innovation and our creativity. Listen Local showcases both.”
