Fleet Foxes have a new record coming out, the follow-up to their highly successful debut, May 3rd. The album and first single is titled “Helplessness Blues.”
The song is very downbeat lyrically — the type of emotional experience lots of my generation go through when they realize, “holy shit, you mean I’m not special? I’m just another fucking person trying to make their way in this world?” It’s some heavy shit, counter-balanced by the glorious singing of Robin Peckhold, a decent mid-tempo melody that bursts at the halfway mark.
It’s a comforting song, in a way. And proof that Fleet Foxes won’t be a one album wonder.
