Favorite new website alert!: Songwriters on Process interviews various musicians in depth about their songwriting process.
Now, normally these types of things are fairly boring because songwriter is limited to folk musician, but this website has an eclectic mix of musicians. They’ve talked to everyone from Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem) to Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast dishing about David Foster Wallace no less.
Those are two pretty cool bands, but then they hit you with a dollop of Patrick Stickles from Titus Andronicus talking about Faulkner, which is punk rock as fuck. Eric from Foxy Shazam admits he’s never read a book in his life? Weird. For a band so theatrical, you’d expect otherwise. Or how about Hutch Harris of Portland’s The Thermals dishing that he needs hotel ball point pens and white paper to write songs?
This website is the perfect combination of my jones for both eclectic music and that elusive thing know here as “the process.”
