Today is David Bowie’s 66th birthday, but he unexpectedly gave us all a gift with his first new song in a decade and word of a new album, which will be out in March. It is called The Next Day, and for now it is only available on iTunes.
“Where Are We Now?”, produced by long-term collaborator Tony Visconti and recorded in NYC, is a downbeat look back to the time Bowie spent in Berlin in the 1970s. The accompanying video features black-and-white footage of the city when it was still divided.
Sadly, there are no plans for interviews or touring, but it’s a welcome return for a guy that quasi-retired in 2004 after heart surgery. And, I mean, this continues David Bowie’s streak of one-upping everything. Welcome back Ziggy Stardust, welcome back. [via YANP]
