Today is not just the official start of Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, when you’re supposed to gourge yourself of all the food in the house in preparation for Lent and 40 days of fasting leading up to Easter (yeah Catholic upbringing I actually remembered something), but today is also the hugest voting primary in the country.
Get out and vote and call your friends to get out and vote. It might take an hour out of your day, but geez what’s more important that helping to decide the direction of the country. And I’m not here to tell you how I’m voting or how you should vote, but whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Socialist you can’t complain about the country unless you take an active participation in it.
According to CNN: 24 states are in play today, with more than four-fifths of the 2,025 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination and more than 1,000 of the 1,191 necessary delegates on the Republican side are at stake.
If you need some music specifically for Super Tuesday, The Mountain Goats recorded a song just for such occassion. You can listen over at Weekend America. Not that we aren’t down with the Grateful Dead reuniting for Obama or even will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas doing the unofficial campaign song thing for him either (holy Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!).
BTW, states in yellow are ones with a primary today.
