David Souter is retiring from the Supreme Court. Rumors began circulating when he didn’t hire this season’s clerks.
According to the NY Times, Souter “has grown increasingly sour on Washington and intends to return to his home state, New Hampshire.” That’s not entirely surprising, if you know anything about Souter, an intensely private justice.
I’m sure his decision was expedited by Obama winning the White House, knowing his replacement will be a moderately liberal judge. Thanks for waiting until after the election.
With Washington already becoming increasing partisan, the nomination/confirmation period should make for must watch television. Though, with 60 senate seats, there’s probably little the Repubs can do.
