As if the CCTV cameras plastered throughout London’s vicinity weren’t enough, England is moving ahead with a program to install 20,000 CCTV cameras into private homes.
The $668 million dollar effort is on behalf of the government’s “Children’s Secretary.” The plan is “to make sure the kids are doing their homework, going to bed early and eating their vegetables. The scheme has, astonishingly, already been running in 2,000 family homes.”
As if that’s not scary enough, the program has it’s own police force (might as well be the thought police) to provide random checks. Never mind the civil liberties and privacy issues, but I’m not quite sure how CCTV cameras will ensure that “problem, anti-social” families are being better parents.
