The St. Petersburg Times photoblog has run a graphic and difficult look at women in the Middle East attacked with acid. The photos are horrifying, tinged with sadness, a stark reminder that this brutality still exists and is accepted by certain societies. You look at these photos and see the strength of survival these women have, their beauty and courage still shining through the pain.
But at the same time there is nothing any of these women have done that is calls for this abuse. It’s criminal, shameful and should be denounced.
