New York Times to Charge for Online Content

New York Magazine is reporting that “sometime this spring” the New York Times will start charging for content. They’ll be using a metered system “in which readers can sample a certain number of free articles before being asked to subscribe.”  I wonder what this will do for their traffic since no one else will be charging for content and really, if you can get it for free why pay for it?

On top of that, oof, Nice one, NYT, if you’re going to try and make a funny about actor Michael C. Hall wearing a hat at the Golden Globes, without knowing he’s been in treatment for cancer, well, how do you expect your readers to trust your content is worth paying for. [via]
