Microsoft’s Zune, an iPod competitor born into this harsh world in 2006, has all but been killed by the company. The hardware goes, but the Zune software will live on in other Microsoft products. The Zune software is actually pretty good, but I know maybe four people in this world that have bought a Zune, so there will be very few tears. The company will shift “its focus to other devices, according to a person familiar with the decision.” Except that the company only has the Xbox as a product one would consider a success. Their new mobile phones have gotten the same response as the Zune, right? So, I’m not sure what they would focus on.
