Usually, anytime Bud Selig has the chance to ruin baseball he does a damn fine job of it. However, the recent realignment rumors — 15 teams in both the American and National leagues with no divisions — is kind of great.
The idea would then be to take the top five teams from each league and have them make the playoffs, with the fourth and fifth seeds essentially playing a wildcard play in series. This works, only if that first round wildcard series is best out of five and can be played quickly. You might even have to make the next round best out of five as well, with just the league championships and World Series best of seven. Otherwise, MLB will be playing their sport into December.
