Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte star in HBO’s Luck, which centers on the world of horse racing — the owners, gamblers, jockeys and gaming industry players. It comes from David Milch, the guy behind Deadwood and director Michael Mann.
It feels like the world of horse racing is material both perfectly suited for Milch and Mann’s particular creative strengths, as Milch has always favored characters seeking redemption and reinvention. Hoffman stars as Ace, a gambler just out of jail and Nolte stars as a horse trainer looking for one last shot.
The rest of the cast is also outstanding, which includes: includes Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Richard Kind, Ian Hart, Kevin Dunn, Ritchie Coster, Jason Gedrick, Jill Hennessy, Tom Payne, Kerry Condon and Gary Stevens.
The show will debut sometime in 2012 and if I had to guess I’d say around the same time as Game of Thrones or perhaps before. Rumor is in January. Launching this around the time of the Kentucky Derby would certainly help build buzz for the show. [via THR]
