Not that it’s all that surprising given the way Season Three ended without much fanfare, but British shows tend to only go a couple of seasons and you never know. The next season will start and end with feature-length episodes, however, this has me a bit concerned:
The Daily Mail is reporting that actor Dan Stevens, who plays Matthew Crawley, is not returning to the show for a fourth round. This is not confirmed by ITV, however. The report cites an anonymous source: “He will probably do the first episode of the fourth series, but that will be it.” The actor is currently appearing on Broadway and was recently quoted as saying he might not return to the show.
Something tells me that won’t be the case, but again, you never know. Wonder how they would write Matthew out of the show given that a central plot line of season three was Matthew and Lord Robert Grantham quibbling over how best to run the Downton Estate.
