I’m not sure if I’m more excited for The Gaslight Anthem’s new album or Titus Andronicus’s new album this year. Regardless, NPR is streaming The Gaslight Anthem’s new album Handwritten and it’s definitely risen to “top album of the year” contender after just a few listens.
NPR is streaming the new Fiona Apple record, which also got a shiny new video for the first single, “Every Single Night.” Naturally, Apple wears a squid hat, engages in alligator feeding and lets a giant snail destroy Paris — so your guess is as good as mine?
Donald Glover is best known as a comedian and the star of Community. But as of late he’s made a name for himself as a rapper who goes by the name of Childish Gambino. His new album, Camp, comes out November 15th, but you can hear the whole thing now on NPR. NPR says: If [...]
NPR is streaming the new Wilco album, The Whole Love this week. On one hand, The Whole Love is Wilco’s most adventurous record in a decade. The band is back to playing with polyrhythms and structure, often abandoning typical verse-and-chorus lines for less linear and more surprising songs. But they also include cuts that would fit comfortably [...]
It’s turning into a good week for album streams. First came the new Blitzen Trapper record and now NPR has their hands on fellow Portland, Ore alt-country band Blind Pilot’s new one as well. We Are the Tide blooms agreeably from start to finish. Though Blind Pilot locates extra energy on the live stage — [...]
Blitzen Trapper’s new album, American Goldwing drops September 13 and from all available evidence, it sounds like the band has swung back towards that country-tinged sound that made Furr so successful. Not that there is anything wrong with the psychedelic, prog stomp of Wild Mountain Nation or Destroyer of the Void, because those albums are [...]
NPR is streaming ’Muppets: The Green Album‘ a collection of Muppets tunes featuring contributions from Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket, Weezer, OK Go and Rachel Yamagata. The only beef? Instead of The Fray covering “Mahna Mahna” the album producers should have gotten Menomena, whose band name was inspired by the Muppet’s song.
I’m generally against tribute albums, but if covers by Paul McCartney, Cee Lo, Fiona Apple, The Black Keys, Lou Reed, Modest Mouse, She & Him, My Morning Jacket and others leads to a greater appreciation and revival for Buddy Holly then I’m all for it. NPR is streaming Rave On Buddy Holly and says, “it adds [...]
From Vulture: “Earlier this month, Fucked Up front man Damian Abraham described the band’s new album as a “heady, drugged out” rock opera “about a guy who works at a lightbulb factory.” You can now hear what that sounds like, courtesy of NPR’s First Listen.“
Big week over at NPR’s First Listen: In addition to the newest from My Morning Jacket, the new Death Cab for Cutie album and Cults’ debut album are available for your streaming pleasure. Not sure which one to start with. Just kidding, obviously MMJ.
