Walt Disney Pictures has released the first trailer for the Gore Verbinski-directed adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp stars as Tonto, the “Native American spirit warrior” who joins forces with Armie Hammer’s “famed masked hero”.
Given that the movie comes from Verbinski, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and was written Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio, I was expecting something tonally similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Something a bit more goofy, a bit more mystical, a bit more weird. I don’t know. I guess I wasn’t expecting a straight-up western.
The movie also stars: Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter. It will hit theaters next summer on July Fourth weekend. [via slashfilm]
